February 2, 2015: the Anne Arundel County Council passed a resolution encouraging the Anne Arundel County Board of Education and the Superintendent of Anne Arundel County Public Schools to establish safe and healthy school hours for all students. February 18, 2015: the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County Board of Education (BOE) – in the adoption of its FY2016 budget request – included $600,000 for the purpose of changing school start times. June 12, 2015: the Anne Arundel County Council passed the AACPS budget and included $600,000 for AACPS to address the issue of changing school start times. Click here to watch the video of the June 15, 2015, Anne Arundel County Council meeting where this action occurred.

December 16, 2015: Superintendent George Arlotto included $8.1 million in his recommended Fiscal Year 2017 budget to accomplish an across-the-county shift in school start and dismissal times beginning in August 2017. In this plan, high schools are proposed to have a daily start time of 8:30 a.m. and a dismissal time of 3:18 p.m., middle schools would begin no earlier than 9:30 a.m. and end no later than 4:15 p.m., and elementary schools would begin between 7:50 and 9:15 a.m. and end between 2:15 and 3:40 p.m. (Click here for a list of tentative start and dismissal times by school).
