Middle School Assessments

In Middle School, each student will take the following AACPS District Quarterly Assessments. Each assessment is designed to last between 45 -- 80 minutes and is designed to measure student progress on the content knowledge and skills from the quarter. Most courses have incorporated one performance-based assessment each year that will allow students to demonstrate their content knowledge and skill acquisition through a project, presentation, or some other performance-based assessment.

  • 3 English Language Arts Assessments
  • 4 Mathematics Assessments
  • 3 Science Assessments
  • 3 Social Studies Assessments

Each quarterly assessment is worth 5% of 6th and 7th grade students' quarter grade and 10% of 8th grade students' quarter grade.

In addition to district assessments, students will also take the PARCC Assessment in literacy and mathematics, the Gates MacGinitie Test in Reading, and the MISA Assessment in science. The results of PARCC, Gates, and MISA do not affect a student's grade.

Students who are taking high school credit courses while in Middle School will be required to complete the corresponding high school assessments (see High School site for list of assessments for each course).

Depending upon the student's plan (IEP, 504, EL), the appropriate accommodations found in Section 5 of the Maryland Accommodations Manual and accommodations found in the PARCC Accommodations Manual are made available to each student when appropriate for assessments.
